High Schools and Academies
There are 6 main high schools in the Lafayette Parish School System: Acadiana, Carencro, Comeaux, Lafayette, Northside, and Charter High. Each high school has a career academy specializing in various trades and professions geared to enhance students' awareness of the workforce when they graduate.

The mission of the Acadiana High School Academy of Business and Finance is to expand the financial knowledge of students through education and training in business and financial literacy. The Academy of Design at Ovey Comeaux High School offers opportunities for specialized training to students with an interest in careers in the Graphic, Visual, and Design Arts. Our goal is to help prepare students to enter the workforce or to pursue additional education and training at the technical college or university level.
Unique to the Academy of Design is the Bench Jewelry Facility, which is outfitted with state-of-the-art jewelry-making equipment. Completion of all four levels of training prepares a graduating student for employment in the Bench Jewelry field.

The Lafayette High Academy of Health Careers is a program of instruction that ensures that students selecting a career in health care have every opportunity to meet their career and educational goals and prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly changing professional world.
Elements the program will include: Partnerships with health care professional agencies, mentors/guest speakers to motivate and encourage students, School-to-Career emphasis - allowing students to see relevance of school and the real world professional health care, teaching teams where students are assigned to a team of specific academy teachers, integrating focused curriculum in which multiple courses work collaboration with each other and make connections with materials studied in class and the world of health care, a sense of caring and special support from peer academy students and core teachers.
The program is open to first time freshmen and sophomores parish wide. Freshmen must enroll in Introduction to Health Occupations course and sophomores must enroll in both the Introduction to Health Occupations and either Health Science I or Allied Health I courses.

The Academy of Engineering serves dual purposes. The main goal is to prepare students to be successful in a post-secondary field of study related to Engineering or Industrial Technology.
The second goal is to help students determine which specific Engineering or Industrial Technology discipline most appeals to them and catches their interest as a possible future career. Courses include Engineering I and II, Drafting I and II, General Technology Education, and Technology Education Computer Applications.

The Academy of Information Technology will introduce students to the broad career opportunities in today's digital workforce and, in the process, equips them with the personal, analytical, technical and communications skills they will need to seek higher education and/or to enter the digital workforce.
The strands of study will consist of: digital media, web design, programming, databases, networking, and computer maintenance, giving all students the opportunity for IT industry certification and/or advance college credit. It will also provide paid internship opportunities.

An expansion of our Computers for Louisiana Kids (CLK) program, which focuses on new age requirements for state and national certification areas in technology. This expanded version, Computers for Louisiana's Kids with Informational Technology (CLK-IT), involves not only repair and recycling but a host of related courses, which include: Computer Maintenance and Upgrade, Troubleshooting, Applications, Investigating Computers, Computer Programming, Aided Publishing, Web Page Design, ITCS Employability Skills, ITC9A+ Certification Test Prep, IM1 Digital Sound, IM2 Digital Photography, and IM3 Multimedia Production.
The ultimate vision is to provide the students of the district with a choice which has the same or greater cachet than those being offered at the traditional high schools. You will also be able to receive a one hour credit towards graduation requirements.

The Sheriff's Career Academy is a partnership between the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and the Lafayette Parish School System and is available to all interested seniors. Students receive one high school credit while learning about a career in law enforcement which includes job shadowing and hands-on training.
Students have an opportunity to get first hand experience about careers in law enforcement such as: criminal justice, community policing, investigation, crime prevention, patrol activities and much more!
