THE SCOTT HERALD
Learn What’s Happening in The Herald

The Great Scott Herald first appeared in local households in August, 2004. Spearheaded by, then, City Councilman Purvis Morrison, the quarterly newsletter provides a vehicle for sharing news and information about Scott.  Chartered under the corporate ownership of Scott Herald, Inc., the paper provides it service to the community as a free, quarterly publication, funded by the sponsorship of local businesses.  The cost of printing and operations are covered through annual commitments for advertising spots.  These are solicited for renewal or initiation every summer, between May and August.   Produced through the printing and artistic services of Hulco Printers, the newsletter has doubled in size from six pages to a twelve-page publication.  Its target dates for distribution are the first of August, November, February and May.  The dates originally coordinated with special celebrations in the City, such as Founder’s Day, Christmas in Scott and Mardi Gras.

Three officers sit on the board of directors.  These include Purvis Morrison as its president, who now serves on Lafayette Parish Council.   Paul Murphy Boudreaux and Theresa Rohloff, also, sit on the board.  Murphy Boudreaux used to write and report for the Rayne Hopper and currently serves as a Civil Service Officer for the City.  He is acting treasurer and also functions in public relations and contributes stories.  Theresa Rohloff serves as secretary and editor of The Herald.  Theresa Rohloff used to work as a writer and edited two specialized newsletters for a major utility company in Houston, TX.   She also writes freelance for other local publications, such as The Acadian.

The newsletter has become a mainstay of the community, as many of the citizens look forward to new releases.  The publication runs regular columns that relate to Scott City Hall (“City Beat” typically provided by our Mayor), the Scott Business Association (“SBA Update”) and public safety (“Chiefs’ Dispatch” which provides messages from the police and fire chiefs).  The “Doctor’s In” provides information relating to the medical community and health, while the newest contributing authors, Cary  and Angie Bryson, provide informative articles about legal and financial issues in “It’s the Law.”  Issues can be found in Scott’s local grocery stores, doctors’ offices, pharmacies, and banks, as well as at Scott City Hall and The Begnaud House.  All sponsors are included in the delivery distribution.  The newsletter has a circulation numbering between 2,250 and 2,500.
